Cairo: World Bank Group Director General for Infrastructure Paul Noumba Um on Wednesday said that power linking of the Middle East with North Africa will make the region the second world energy market after the European Union's.
He added at a conference on electricity trade in the Arab world, that kicked off here on Wednesday, that such a step needs providing transfer networks and increasing investments in the development of renewable energy sources.
Meanwhile, Assistant Arab League Secretary General for Economic Affairs Kamal Hassan Ali said that the conference is shedding light on vital issues atop of which comes the strategic importance of energy trade for the economies of the region.
It also offers an opportunity for reviewing challenges facing the energy trade in the region, he added. Source MENA
